In order to be considered for a Live Near Your Work grant, you must complete a counseling class and a one-on-one appointment with an approved homeownership counseling agency. This important step must be completed before you make an offer on a home and before you apply for a grant.

Certificates from a counseling class are good for one year, so you are strongly encouraged to earn one before looking for a home. If you have a co-buyer on the sales contract, he or she also needs to complete homeownership counseling.
