The Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Office of Medical Education welcomes interested medical students to apply to the high-yield clinical electives available at our campus. All electives have a competitive application process where students should demonstrate values consistent with our mission, strong academic achievement, and an interest in developing a career in pediatrics.
Clinical electives are available to 4th year medical students who are attending either LCME or COCA accredited schools and have completed a pediatrics clerkship. Applicants must be citizens of the U.S. or one of its territories. Clinical electives are typically scheduled for 4 weeks in one of the following specialties, with a maximum of one elective allowed per academic year:

Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (NICU)

Critical Care Medicine (PICU)

Emergency Medicine

Hematology/Oncology

Cardiology

Endocrinology

Application Process
Applications for clinical electives are accepted no more than six months prior to the elective start date and must be submitted at least six weeks prior to the start date of the elective. To apply, please submit an application through our online VISMED Application portal. Please note that the VISMED application page is titled “Summer, High School, and Non-Degree Programs”
