Daniel Mauriello, M.D.
Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Program Director
Dr. Mauriello is a general pediatric cardiologist who treats children with congenital heart disease. His areas of focus include graduate education as well as clinical interests in pulmonary hypertension and autonomic dysfunction. After graduating from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, he completed a residency in pediatric and adolescent medicine and a pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, located at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. His research interests include clinical outcomes and quality improvement measures.
Joy Johnson, M.D., M.S.
Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Associate Program Director
Dr. Johnson is the director of the Fetal Heart Program in the Heart Institute at Johns Hopkins All Children’s. She joined the hospital team in 2021. She was previously a pediatric cardiologist at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and an assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Johnson has published a number of peer-reviewed articles, authored book chapters and given talks nationally. Her clinical expertise is in fetal and pediatric echocardiography, and the care of all children with heart disease. Her research interests center around value, cost and outcomes in congenital heart disease.
Jessica Laks, M.D., MScCH
Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Assistant Program Director
Dr. Laks is a pediatric cardiologist who specializes in heart failure and transplantation. Dr. Laks earned her medical degree from the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Ontario. She completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she also served as pediatric co-chief resident. She completed a pediatric cardiology fellowship, where she served as chief pediatric cardiology fellow, followed by additional training in a pediatric heart function and transplant fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. She also earned her Master of Science in Community Health with a specialization in Health Practitioner Teacher Education from the University of Toronto. Her clinical and research interests include medical education, cardiomyopathy and VAD management, and heart transplant outcomes.
