Pediatric Radiology Fellowship
Director: Danial Syed Bokhari, M.D.
The pediatric radiology fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Fellowship Overview
The pediatric radiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital offers excellent training and broad exposure to all aspects of diagnostic pediatric radiology. We have 1 ACGME fully accredited fellowship spot. An additional year of focused subspecialty training is available for qualified fellows in our ACGME accredited Advanced Specialty Training Program which includes pediatric neuroradiology and fetal MR imaging.
During the one-year fellowship, the fellow will be exposed to all aspects of pediatric radiology. Our general body rotation includes CT, MRI, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and radiographs and covers all aspects of inpatient and outpatient imaging including the emergency department, newborn nursery, neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care unit, general, surgical, and oncology pediatric inpatient units, and the numerous Johns Hopkins outpatient imaging sites. Additional rotations that occur during the fellowship year include neuroradiology, fetal MR imaging, nuclear medicine/molecular imaging, and interventional radiology. We work closely with our world-renowned pediatric subspecialty departments (please see section titled “Subspecialty Collaboration”). In addition to the main Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, we cover the JH Howard County General Hospital, JH Bayview Medical Center, JH Sibley Hospital, and JH Suburban Hospital.
Our pediatric radiology fellow works one-on-one with the pediatric radiology attendings on service to maximize the learning experience. The fellow is encouraged to work closely with the radiology residents that rotate in pediatric radiology to “learn as they teach” and prepare them for the next step in their career as independent pediatric radiologists. The fellow is required to participate and present in select conferences under the supervision of the pediatric radiology attendings. Our team has a very strong academic presence and leadership roles in national and international pediatric radiology and pediatric neuroradiology societies. Scientific publications are encouraged and supported.
Educational and clinical subspecialty conferences occur daily which cover all aspects of pediatric imaging. We hold monthly CME conferences which include journal club, invited speakers, and grand rounds.
All fellows receive one half to one day of academic time per week (depending on the degree of research or scholarly activity pursued). There are many opportunities to engage in educational projects, quality improvement projects, and original research with the faculty.
Our program offers an academic expense fund, flexible rotation schedule, the possibility of away electives, and extra time in certain subspecialities if desired. In addition, health insurance for the fellow and family are covered. Four weeks of vacation time and 1 week of conference time (to be used at one of the major radiology conferences) are also given.
