The Pharmacy Informatics Residency offers advanced training in emerging technologies and information handling at The Johns Hopkins Hospital along with the opportunity to work with technology projects at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in Bethesda MD.

This Specialized Residency in Pharmacy Informatics is a 1-year residency designed to foster knowledge and appreciation for the potentials and limitations of tools used to gather and disseminate information in the practice of pharmacy in the institutional experience.

Specific Benefits

The Pharmacy Informatics Residency includes all aspects of information processing in an academic medical center. The resident gains experience with implementing pharmacy management objectives, drug-use policies, investigational service, pharmacy operations, clinical and decentralized pharmacy services, human resource, finance goals through the use of pertinent technologies where appropriate and cost effective. The limitations of these technologies will be addressed as well.

Current Pharmacy technology projects include Computerized Prescriber order entry (POE) with interface to the Pharmacy departmental computerized system; robotics, End to End Medication Management (EEMM) using bar coding and RFID foundation; Controlled access cabinets (Pyxis) using patient profiling; Pharmacy clinical documentation and tracking of patient issues and more.

With this extensive range of projects underway, it is possible for the resident to explore projects that appeal to their technology interests.
