Pediatric Acute Injury Resiliency (PAIR) Clinic
Research shows that the majority of people find that they can cope with a traumatic injury much better a few weeks after returning home. However, for some people, these issues may not improve enough or new challenges may emerge. The purpose of the Pediatric After Injury Resiliency (PAIR) clinic is to allow children and families to meet with a psychologist and a member of the surgery team to reassess their functioning about a month of their injury, to see if they have any other needs while returning to more ordinary life, and to provide recommendations for increasing resilience following injury.
What to Expect
When patients and their families come to the PAIR Clinic, the visit will include consultations from specialized care teams.
Surgery Team Check-In
The pediatric surgery team will check in with the patient and family to help manage any medical issues that need attention following surgery.
Meet with a Psychologist
Assessment and Treatment
Particular focus will be placed on assessing for symptoms of post-traumatic stress and other emotional or behavioral challenges that children and families can experience after a traumatic injury. Based on this assessment, treatment needs and therapy options will be discussed in clinic and specific referral information will be provided to assist families in connecting with high quality psychotherapy services.
