Services We Offer

Our team works closely with the Center for Transgender and Gender Expansive Health to provide care and guidance for the following treatments or to make referrals for complex health concerns.

Prevention, Screening and Sexual Health

Based on your risk factors, you can get testing, screening and therapies, including:

  • Annual exam
  • Pap tests for patients who have a cervix
  • Referrals for mammograms (your doctor may recommend screening if you have genetic risks for breast cancer, even if you have had top surgery)
  • Sexually transmitted infection screening and treatment
  • Contraception, including:
    • Options for those receiving hormones as part of their transitioning treatments
    • Trauma-informed intrauterine device (IUD) insertion
    • IUD placement under anesthesia
  • HIV prevention (pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP)

Fertility

If you want to become a biological parent, our doctors can assist each step of the way, starting with preconception planning and genetic counseling.

To help you become pregnant, the LGBTQ+ family-building group at the Fertility Center offers the latest procedures.

For people contemplating treatment with hormones or surgery as part of their gender affirmation, preserving fertility in advance may be a consideration. Freezing eggs, ovarian tissue, sperm or embryos can keep parenthood options open once transition is complete.

Pregnancy and Delivery

Once you are pregnant, our care continues, with support for a healthy pregnancy and expertise in obstetric care and delivery. For advanced care, we can connect you with experts in high-risk pregnancies.

Insurance, Legal Issues and Paperwork

We understand the complex insurance and legal aspects involved with issues such as surrogacy and adoption, and can help you navigate the paperwork. Our familiarity with social services and resources for gender expansive and transgender people can help you receive services to grow your family.

Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma disproportionately affects people who identify as transgender and gender expansive. For anyone who has had a frightening, painful or violent experience involving their body, feelings of panic, depersonalization or fear can be a barrier to receiving medical care, especially procedures that involve anesthesia.

Our approach to examining and treating transgender people uses principles of trauma-informed care to reduce anxiety. For example:

  • Verbal communication during each step of an exam or procedure, so you will understand what is happening and why
  • Respect for your bodily autonomy, with appropriate covering
  • Sensitivity to triggering actions and language
  • Self-directed urinary tests for some infections if you cannot undergo an exam
