Trauma Injury Prevention Program
The Trauma Injury Prevention Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital is dedicated to preventing avoidable injuries through research, education and community engagement. Our mission is to provide comprehensive care for adult trauma patients while empowering communities to create safer environments. We collaborate with local, state and national partners to engage in injury prevention initiatives using trauma-informed care principles and evidence-based practices to address underlying factors contributing to trauma and injuries.
Our efforts target health-care professionals and the public, offering resources and training to enhance understanding and empower individuals to take proactive measures. As a Level 1 trauma center, we are committed to treating and preventing injuries through collaborative efforts at all levels.
Programs and Services Offered
Preventing trauma before it happens is the best way to address it. The Johns Hopkins Trauma Injury Prevention Program employs a collaborative, trauma-informed care approach to tackle our top mechanisms of injury: falls, motor vehicle collisions and gunshot wounds. Through data analysis, community outreach and education, we’ve reached more than 4,000 individuals with our initiatives. Our programs include the Senior Lifestyle and Injury Prevention (SLIP) Program (falls prevention), Stop the Bleed training, Think First (distracted driving), and Trauma Survivors Network.
Stop the Bleed
Join us in Stop the Bleed training! Did you know that massive bleeding (hemorrhaging) is the leading cause of preventable injury-related death? Tragically, victims may die from uncontrolled bleeding. Senior Lifestyle and Injury Prevention (SLIP) Program
SLIP is an evidence-based program designed to address the needs of older adults, who are disproportionately at risk for poor outcomes following a fall injury. The SLIP program is a 40-minute class with the option for tests and take-home information. The overall goal is to:
- Address older adult falls
- Recognize how good nutrition can help decrease chances of breaking a bone
- Increase awareness about knowing your medications and their side effects
- Teach you how to fall-proof your home
If you or someone you know is interested in participating in our SLIP program, please fill out the Smartsheet below and someone will contact you:
