Types of Gifts
There are four ways to support the Kimmel Cancer Center through charitable giving: cash gifts, matching gifts, memorial giving or gift planning.
Cash gifts
Gifts of all sizes help the Kimmel Cancer Center to continue our ongoing efforts as a leader in compassionate care and innovative research for cancer patients and their families. Gifts made with a check or credit card provide immediate support to the Cancer Center.
Contributions to the Kimmel Cancer Center can be unrestricted and used where the need is greatest. Gifts can also be designated to support a specific doctor or program. Gifts can also be made in memory of a loved one or to honor someone special in your life.
Gifts can be made outright or pledged over a period of up to five years.
Matching gifts
Many employers offer a matching gift program to their employees. For every dollar you donate to the Kimmel Cancer Center, your employer will match it either dollar for dollar, two dollars to one dollar, or, in more generous cases, three dollars to one dollar. All you need is a Matching Gift Form from your employer’s Public Affairs Department. Complete the section designated for employees and mail the form to us. We will take care of all the other details and paperwork.
Memorial and In Lieu of Flowers Gifts
Thank you for your thoughtfulness and interest in designating memorial gifts in honor of a loved one to the Kimmel Cancer Center.
Memorial gifts can be designated to support:
- A specific doctor’s research
- Research into a specific disease
- General cancer research
The suggested format for designating in Lieu of Flowers gifts is as follows:
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of _____________ may be directed to support ______________ at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Please make checks payable to Johns Hopkins University. Gifts may be mailed with a memo indicating that this gift is in memory of _____________ to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, P.O. Box 49143, Baltimore, MD 21297-9143 or make a gift online at hopkinscancer.org.
If you are designating memorial gifts to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center “In Lieu of Flowers,” please contact the Development Office at 410-361-6391. This contact will allow the Development Office to write acknowledgment letters to the donors and track all memorial gifts in honor of your loved one as well as provide you with names and addresses of those who made gifts.
Gift planning
Gift planning allows our donors to thoughtfully choose ways of giving that meet their needs—and the needs of the Kimmel Cancer Center. A development officer with the Cancer Center and the Johns Hopkins Institutions Office of Gift Planning can provide you with information on effective charitable planning options so that you can achieve optimum tax, financial, and philanthropic results.
