Be the Next Generation of Innovators in Neuro-Oncology
The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Brain Tumor Program is proud to offer a fully funded three-year Neuro-Oncology Fellowship aimed at training the next generation of physician-scientists and leaders in the field of neuro-oncology.
The JHU Neuro-Oncology Fellowship is designed to equip physicians with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful clinical and research careers in neuro-oncology. The program includes:
Year 1: Comprehensive clinical training that meets all UCNS requirements.
Years 2-3: Dedicated research time focusing on clinical, translational, or laboratory-based discovery research.
The clinical curriculum is thoughtfully structured to fulfill the requirements for the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialty (UCNS) neuro-oncology board examination, while also allowing fellows to focus on their specific areas of interest and develop the skill sets needed for career success.
Multidisciplinary Experience
Fellows from all areas of medical training pertinent to neuro-oncology clinical practice and research (including neurology, medical oncology, neurosurgery, pathology, radiology, etc.) work closely within multidisciplinary teams at JHU, participating in formal rotations with:
- Neurosurgeons
- Medical and Pediatric Oncologists
- Neurologists
- Radiation Oncologists
- Neuropathologists
- Palliative Care Providers
- Neuroradiologists
Personalized Training
The JHU Neuro-Oncology Fellowship emphasizes a customized training experience for each fellow. Key features include
-
Each fellow will have a dedicated mentoring committee with a primary faculty mentor to guide their education and research development, ensuring optimal use of the three years of full funding. This includes preparation for faculty positions and creating career trajectories to inform securing a successful first professional position.
-
Trainees will have the opportunity to design and implement clinical trials, translational studies for adult brain and spine tumor patients, epidemiologic and data science investigations, and/or conduct bench research, and will gain hands-on experience in data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing.
Outstanding Research Facilities
JHU offers access to world-class laboratories, imaging facilities, emerging therapeutic modalities, and exceptional clinical and outcomes research opportunities.
Career Advancement
The majority of our fellows take full advantage of all three years of the program, positioning them optimally for their first appointments as academic clinician-scientists in neuro-oncology. We also offer flexibility in scheduling to align with each fellow’s experience, goals, and opportunities.
