Giant's annual Pediatric Cancer Campaign runs from August 17 through October 11, and uses proceeds from store coupon book sales to help fund research at the Johns Hopkins Division of Pediatric Oncology. Be sure to purchase a coupon book at checkout on your next visit!

Giant's Commitment to Pediatric Cancer Research
- 2018 was Giant's 14th year fundraising to support pediatric cancer research. Since 2005, they have raised an astounding $41 million dollars for pediatric cancer research.
- Giant set a goal to raise $2 million for this year's campaign
- Donations are made through the sale of $5.00 coupon books valued at $50.00. The coupon books feature Giant's ambassadors and hospital partners, helping to put local faces and organizations to the program.
- 100% of all funds go directly to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center and the Children's Cancer Foundation, Inc.
- September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a perfect time to show your support!
Meet Our 2018 Patient Ambassadors... and their Superhero Alter Egos
Ashley Hackman
Ashley, 11, was an energetic and happy 10-year-old who loved going to school, cheerleading, and spending time with her sister. That changed when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in January 2017 after going to the hospital for what was initially thought to be appendicitis. She was immediately transferred to the Johns Hopkins Children's Center and began treatment two days later. It was determined her leukemia cells have a rare genetic mutation and she was moved to a stronger treatment protocol and enrolled in a research study with the hopes of improving her prognosis.
Ashley's treatment targets her bone marrow and depletes her white blood cells, which severely suppresses her immune system and caused major lifestyle changes for her family. Ashley has handled her diagnosis, treatment, and limited lifestyle stronger than ever imagined. She has been extremely brave and inspiring to many that know her. She always has a positive outlook and has supported several charitable events to raise money for childhood cancer research.
Willian Aguirre
Willian, 14, began his cancer journey in August 2016. He started having terrible headaches, and noticed that his leg was swollen badly enough that he could not walk. After meeting with doctors, Willian was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Willian has been an inpatient many times, but his cancer is now in remission.
As a result of his treatments, which included a bone marrow transplant, Willian's immune system is very low and he is now being treated with high dose steroids for graft versus host disease complications. Despite all the challenges he has faced, Willian still enjoys playing PlayStation and his favorite sports are soccer and running.
As you may be able to tell, Willian's favorite superhero is The Flash.
