Membership

Founded in March 2010, the Pediatric Oncology Advisory Council is comprised of volunteers who have demonstrated an interest and commitment to the Division of Pediatric Oncology at Johns Hopkins and the fight against childhood cancer. Members include leaders from all areas of professional endeavor, some of whom are parents, survivors, donors, or related friends of the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Members are asked to serve a minimum term of two-years with opportunity for subsequent renewal.

Mission

The Pediatric Oncology Advisory Council exists to raise money to fund pediatric cancer research. Our focus is to fund research to find less toxic, more targeted treatments which will lead to the elimination of pediatric cancer worldwide.

Responsibilities

The primary goal of the Advisory Council is to become knowledgeable and informed advocates for the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center’s Division of Pediatric Oncology.  

Responsibilities include:

• To serve as an advocate/ spokesperson for the Division to the wider community.
• To act as an advisor to the Director on a broad range of issues, including fund-raising initiatives, advocacy and long-range planning
• To help the Division secure private philanthropic gifts through the identification and solicitation of individuals believed capable of significant financial support.

Meetings

Meetings of the Pediatric Oncology Friends will occur four times a year at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. The typical format of the meeting consists of an overview of Divisional activities provided by the Director, an overview of research efforts, presentations from faculty members, discussion of development initiatives, and conversations regarding the latest advances in patient care and pediatric cancer innovations.
