Applications and Admissions

The July cohort application window is open from Dec. 1 to March 1. Applications and all supporting documents must be postmarked by March 1.

The January cohort application window is open from July 1 to Oct. 1. Applications and all supporting documents and transcripts must be postmarked by Oct. 1.

Applications received after the due dates will be considered on a space-available basis.

Complete applications include:

  • Application fee of $40 payable to Johns Hopkins Hospital (nonrefundable)
  • Completed application form
  • Two reference forms
  • Official transcripts from all post-high school education

Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by one of the agencies in the United States that performs academic credential evaluations. Applicants with academic degrees from international institutions are required to take both the TOEFL and TSE examinations within twelve (12) months of the application deadline.

  • We cannot sponsor international students for an F-1 or J-1 Visa
  • We can only accept international students that possess a green card.

Admission Requirements

Individuals must present a strong academic background, especially in the supporting sciences. They need to demonstrate responsibility, a character of high moral integrity, good interpersonal skills and compassion.

Applicants must have a minimum of a two-year associate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Prerequisites

  • College Algebra: A minimum of one semester of college algebra is required; a higher-level math course will also satisfy this requirement. Statistics will not satisfy this requirement.
  • Anatomy and Physiology with lab: A minimum of two semesters of college-level anatomy and physiology with a lab are required.
  • Medical Terminology: One medical terminology course is required; it must be an official academic course resulting in a grade on a school transcript; courses are available from community and technical colleges, or online.
  • Physics with lab: A minimum of one semester of college-level introductory physics with a lab is required.
  • Communications: May be met by English, speech or composition courses.

All prerequisite coursework must be completed by the date of matriculation with a grade of C or better.

A&P I and II, medical terminology, and physics cannot be more than five years old.

The most competitive candidates will possess:

  • A GPA of at least 3.0
  • Previous experience in patient care
  • Previous experience shadowing a sonographer
  • All prerequisite coursework complete at the time of interview
    • This is not a requirement to apply, but all degrees and prerequisites must be completed prior to the program start
