Hospital Pharmacologist
Established in the mid-80s and currently held by Dr. Petty, the Hospital Pharmacologist position is designed to bring a clinical pharmacologist's perspective and expertise to the prescriber-pharmacy and patient interfaces. The Hospital Pharmacologist investigates and recommends the appropriate use of drugs within the Hospital; teaches rational drug use at all levels: medical students, housestaff, attending physicians; serves as Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee; assists the Hospital in meeting regulatory needs; coordinates review of medication issues for the Institutional Review Board; and provides physician advice and feedback to the pharmacy regarding policy review and revision.
The Drug Information Center is a service, provided jointly by the Department of Pharmacy and the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, for healthcare professionals at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.
Services include:
- Providing information on the safe and rational use of drugs
- Educating students and healthcare practitioners
- Assistance to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
- Oversight of the adverse drug reaction reporting system
