Post-Fellowship
Approximately 80% of our fellows are retained by Hopkins and approximately 90% of our fellows are recruited into leadership roles at academic hospitals nationally for their first post-fellowship job.
Our Fellows have held a variety of competitive positions post-fellowship including Director of Operations, Assistant Administrator, Ambulatory Services Manager, and Financial Analyst. Many alumni fellows at Hopkins remaining a part of a close net community to welcome and support incoming fellows. Further along in their careers, many fellows are serving in competitive executive leadership roles. For example, prior JHM Administrative Fellows are currently serving as President, CEO, COO, and Chief Administrative Officer.
Thoughts from Alumni Fellows at Hopkins
“The JHM Administrative Fellowship was such an invaluable experience to learn about hospital and health system operations. The preceptors are very invested in teaching, and I am still grateful for all of the mentorship that I received during the fellowship. It was truly two years of learning more than I thought possible, and a formative time in my career.”

“The JHM Administrative Fellowship was the perfect launching pad for my healthcare career. The program provided me such broad exposure while also giving me opportunities to make tangible contributions to our health system. Working at Johns Hopkins Medicine is incredible. You meet and work with people with diverse backgrounds who are truly experts in their field. Our people are also just great people to work with. It’s clear we have a culture of caring and that shines through the relationships I have with my colleagues.”

“The JHM Administrative Fellowship means the world to me. The program allowed me to grow both professionally and personally in ways that I never thought possible. The fellowship adds value to JHM through the project work performed as well as by contributing to the organization’s educational mission of training the next generation of health care leaders. The culture of Johns Hopkins Medicine is one of unparalleled collegiality. There is a solidarity that exists between all JHM employees because we are united in our work to support the tripartite mission of clinical care, research, and education. This connectedness is something that you can feel in the day to day work and is inspiring.”

“My favorite component of the JHM Administrative Fellowship is the family-like atmosphere among the alumni and current fellows. JHM chooses three fellows each year, and a high percentage of us have found opportunities within the system post-fellowship. Consequently, you automatically gain 15+ friends who have a vested interest to see you succeed. Being exposed to the operations and cultures among the various entities within the organization (academic vs. community hospitals, international operations, ambulatory surgery centers, etc.) provided me with a better understanding of what leadership within a large health delivery system entails. I pursued this fellowship as I wanted the chance to witness the various roles one could pursue within a health system and hopefully walk into an opportunity post-fellowship fully confident of what would be expected of me in such a role. I can honestly say that my fellowship experience provided me with such an outcome.”

“The servant leadership and collegial culture is what made me fall in love with Hopkins. There is gentleness and warmth in almost every interaction, which is unexpected and so heartwarming. I love the fact that fellows can reach out to just about anyone for lunch and truly have the opportunity to learn from the best of the best. One of my fondest memories is having dinner with the President of Johns Hopkins University, President Ron Daniels, and being so captured by his passion for Baltimore and helping people. He was beyond inspiring and reaffirmed my appreciation and desire to remain a part of the Hopkins community! Ultimately, the JHM Administrative Fellowship prepared me to hit the ground running in my first role out of the fellowship as an Administrator of a large clinical department. There is so much amazing change happening here, and the fellows have the fortune of being both in the middle and at the forefront of it!”

“Without the JHM Administrative Fellowship, I would not have been exposed to the vast variety of individuals, projects, and teams that had such an influence on the direction of my career path. The rotational aspect of the program allows young professionals the opportunity to explore numerous sites and settings that contribute to the successful operations of a health system. The breadth of knowledge and experiences that JHM Administrative Fellows gain during their two years in the program provide an excellent foundation to build on for a role as a future leader in health care.”
