The Sibley Memorial Hospital staff includes 30 well-known physicians specializing in ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery, which comprises one of the largest and most distinguished otolaryngology medical staffs in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Physicians and the nursing staff are active participants in both regional and national meetings. Our otolarynology surgical team train together in computerized and integrated operating rooms in the latest surgical innovations including balloon sinusplasty for sinus surgery.
Some minimally invasive and endoscopic outpatient and inpatient procedures provided at Sibley include:
- Image-guided and endoscopic nose/nasal/sinus surgery
- Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery (eyes, noses and faces)
- Voice evaluations and treatments
- Maxillo-facial trauma surgery
- Laser-assisted head and neck cancer procedures
-
Sibley’s Plastic Surgery Division provides both aesthetic (cosmetic) and reconstructive surgery in multiple operating rooms every day.
The plastic surgery unit offers patients the option of outpatient or inpatient aesthetic or reconstructive surgery. Patients can either have surgery in the plastic surgery unit in the main operating room, or in our new Ambulatory Surgery Center. Our advanced technology and equipment reduce the complications of anesthesia and effective patient monitoring by Sibley Memorial Hospital's board-certified anesthesiologists.
When patients arrive, they are seen in the preoperative area by specially trained nurses. After meeting the surgeon and anesthesiologist, patients are escorted to the operating room and then to the recovery room, all staffed by nurses and physicians assistants qualified and experienced in caring for plastic surgery patients.
Commonly performed procedures include:
- Face and neck lift
- Eyelid surgery
- Rhinoplasty
- Otoplasty
- Facial resurfacing
We also specialize in all forms of breast surgery, including:
- Breast augmentation
- Breast reduction and lift
- Breast reconstruction
Many of our breast reconstruction patients are cared for in coordination with physicians affiliated with Sibley’s Sullivan Center for Breast Health.
We also specialize in body-contouring procedures. These may require liposuction alone, using the latest technology and advances in liposuction, or may involve more extensive procedure methods. Many body-contouring patients are either post-bariatric surgery or have experienced significant weight loss or have developed postpartum changes.

Thoracic surgery is a highly specialized discipline that encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions of the chest. Sibley’s thoracic surgeons perform a broad range of surgeries, using minimally invasive approaches when appropriate and indicated.
Thoracic surgeons are doctors who have had many years of advanced training in general surgery and general thoracic surgery and who are experts in providing treatments for:
- Lung cancer
- Tumors of the chest wall
- Emphysema
- Esophageal swallowing problems
- Esophageal cancer
- Complications caused by gastroesophageal reflux
- Mediastinal masses
- Hyperhidrosis
Thoracic diseases must be identified as early as possible and diagnosed properly if treatment is to be effective. Many patients suffer for years, with symptoms such as tightness in the chest or difficulty swallowing, only to find their conditions would have been managed differently if they had seen a specialist physician during the beginning of their symptoms. Sibley’s board-certified thoracic surgeons evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with a wide range of esophageal, lung and chest conditions and diseases, including:
- Barrett’s esophagus
- Bronchiectasis
- Chest wall tumors
- Diaphragmatic hernia
- Emphysema
- Esophageal achalasia
- Esophageal cancer
- Esophageal diverticulum
- Hyperhidrosis
- Interstitial lung disease
- Lung cancer
- Mediastinal mass
- Myasthenia gravis
- Pleural effusion
- Pneumothorax
- Pulmonary nodule
- Thoracic outlet syndrome
