Pharmacy Services
The goal of the Pharmacy Department is to support the mission of Sibley Memorial Hospital and to assure safe, quality and cost-efficient medication therapy for patients. Our mission is to provide exceptional and professional service to our patients and customers through high-quality drug formulary management, excellent pharmaceutical care systems and current, unbiased drug information.
Comprehensive clinical pharmacy services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for our inpatients and outpatients receiving care at Sibley. The pharmacy is comprised of both centralized and decentralized clinical pharmacists as well as certified pharmacy technicians. Decentralized pharmacists are staffed on the critical care, medical/surgical, oncology, orthopedic, perioperative, emergency and skilled nursing departments during peak hours each day. Services include:
- Drug preparation and distribution
- Drug and disease state information
- Drug monitoring services
- Warfarin dosing service
- Parenteral nutrition dosing service
- Vancomycin dosing service
- Medication services associated with cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Collection and validation of home medication lists for use in medication reconciliation
- Patient education
- Staff education
Patient safety is the pharmacy’s primary focus. Physician medication orders entered into the electronic health record are reviewed by a clinical pharmacist for appropriateness of therapy. Patients are monitored for drug allergies, drug interactions, drug-food interactions and lab values.
In addition to hospital pharmacy services, an infusion center pharmacy is located in the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center on our campus. Infusion medications are prepared on site to expedite care of the patients seen there.
The Pharmacy Department is very proud to serve our patients and community as an integral member of the health care team. We promote advances in service delivery, clinical research and health care innovation. Sibley’s commitment to education and the pharmacy profession is also alive and well. The pharmacy team serves with affiliated colleges of pharmacy as preceptors and faculty in the training of future pharmacists. In addition, Sibley’s ASHP Accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency program supports the advanced training of three clinical pharmacists annually.
We strive to exceed the expectations of our patients and customers and we welcome your feedback and comments.
