Cochlear Center for Hearing and Public Health
The Cochlear Center for Hearing and Public Health is dedicated to training clinicians, researchers and public health experts to study and address the impact that hearing loss has on older adults and public health. We aim to make measured local, national and global impacts through a macro level (e.g., public policy legislation), micro level (e.g., programs to deliver hearing care to individuals in a particular community), and everywhere in between (e.g., influential research publications, etc.) to adhere to our center’s overall mission and vision of effectively optimizing the health and function of an aging society and become the premier global resource for ground-breaking research and training on hearing loss and public health. -
Graham Mooney Lab
Work in the Graham Mooney Lab focuses on the history of public health interventions as well as the impact of public health policies on population health outcomes. Our research includes topics such as the history of public health in the United Kingdom and United States during the 19th and 20th centuries, and the historical geographies of health and medicine. We also explore infectious disease surveillance and control and historical epidemiology and demography. -
Jonathan Weiner Lab
The Jonathan Weiner Lab researches the impact of electronic health records (EHRs), e-health and other health information technology (HIT) on populations, integrated delivery systems and public health agencies.Principal Investigator

Casey Overby Lab
Research in the Casey Overby Lab focuses on the intersection of public health genomics and biomedical informatics. We’re currently developing applications to support the translation of genomic research to clinical and population-based health care settings. We’re also working to develop knowledge-based ways to use big data — including electronic health records — to improve population health. -
Alain Labrique Lab
The Alain Labrique Lab conducts research on infectious diseases and public health. Our team studies the various factors that lead to maternal and neonatal mortality, particularly in underserved populations in South Asia, using the tools of infectious disease epidemiology, molecular biology and biostatistics. We work to better understand factors such as the interface of micronutrient deficiency and maternal/infant mortality and the prevention of nosocomial infections through mechanistic or nutritional interventions. We also have a longstanding interest in technologies that may enable early detection of disease.Principal Investigator

Brain Health Program
The Johns Hopkins Brain Health Program is a multi-specialty team of experts from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Whiting School of Engineering, and the Bloomberg School of Public Health. -
Eric Bass Lab
Work in the Eric Bass Lab focuses on evidence-based medicine, comparative effectiveness research, and community health partnerships. Our work is closely aligned with the Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research and the Johns Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice Center. -
Neuro-Oncology Surgical Outcomes Laboratory
Directed by Debraj “Raj” Mukherjee, MD, MPH, the laboratory focuses on improving access to care, reducing disparities, maximizing surgical outcomes, and optimizing quality of life for patients with brain and skull base tumors.
The laboratory achieves these aims by creating and analyzing institutional and national databases, developing and validating novel patient-centered quality of life instruments, leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence platforms to risk-stratify vulnerable patient populations, and designing novel surgical trials to push the boundaries of neurosurgical innovation.
Our research also investigates novel approaches to improve neurosurgical medical education including studying the utility of video-based surgical coaching and the design of new operative instrumentation. -
Translational Informatics Research and Innovation Lab
The mission the Translational Informatics Research and Innovation (TIRI) Lab is to understand and create advanced technology and digital device solutions that address challenges to the translation of biomedical data science-informed guidance into clinical use to improve the health of individuals, especially for people that are often underrepresented in research. -
Robert Bollinger Lab
The key research interests in the Robert Bollinger Lab include identifying biological and behavioral risk factors for HIV transmission as well as characterizing the clinical progression and treatment of HIV and related infectious diseases. We also have a long-standing interest in optimizing health care capacity and delivery in settings with limited resources. Our work includes implementing science research projects to explore the effectiveness of initiatives such as task-shifting, clinical education, distance learning and mobile health programs as a way to improve health care in these locations.
