Research in the Mark Hughes Lab focuses on clinical and research ethics as well as clinical bioethics, ambulatory care, philosophy of medicine and palliative care.

The Stephen Sisson Lab focuses on medical education, community outreach and ambulatory care. We recently demonstrated concurrent validity between performance on an ambulatory curriculum, the Internal Medicine In-Training Examination (IM-ITE) and the American Board of Internal Medicine Certifying Examination (ABIM-CE).

Research in the Samantha Pitts Lab focuses on care safety and quality in ambulatory patients. Specifically, our activities have included applying the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) in office-based practices and improving the delivery of evidence-based care through clinical care teams.

Research in the Rosalyn Stewart Lab focuses on medical education and curriculum development; ambulatory medicine; community outreach and advocacy; health outcomes; and preventive medicine. Topics of published studies include the administration of vaccinations, care quality of pediatric sickle-cell disease patients and the improvement of transitional care to reduce hospital readmission rates.
