The Johns Hopkins orthopaedic faculty is proud of the consistently outstanding residents that graduate from our program. Our mentoring philosophy is focused on nurturing orthopaedic talent, educating leaders and making sure that students are exposed to the building blocks that are going to make them excellent doctors.

• Resident education is a top priority: This is one of the few academic programs with minimal fellow presence. Residents get early and extensive operative experience.
• Dedicated five hours of education every week with residents free of clinical responsibilities: This includes both high-yield lectures and hands-on skills sessions at the International Center for Orthopaedic Advancement and takes place in addition to separate service-specific teaching sessions.
• Research mentors are assigned during your intern year to help guide you during your research thesis: Motivated residents present at numerous national and international meetings and publish extensively.
• Publishing assistance: The Editorial Services team can guide you through the publication process, including selecting a journal, editing and submitting the manuscript, coordinating revision, reviewing page proofs and ensuring timely publication.

• All rotations are within Baltimore or surrounding areas.
• Endowment dedicated to fund residents going overseas for outreach/mission trips, including Operation Walk, SIGN nail and Shriner's hospitals.

Dawn LaPorte, M.D., holds memberships on the Governing Committee of the Council of Orthopaedic Residency Directors, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, where she serves on the Orthopaedic Resident Review Committee, and the American Society of Surgery for the Hand, where she is chair of the Resident Education Committee and her efforts have included organizing and co-chairing the Resident Educator Workshop.
