The SOARING internship is an intensive, 8-week paid training comprising hospital and nursing orientation, didactic classes, simulation lab and clinical time providing direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse clinical instructor.

The SOARING internship is offered three times per year and qualifies candidates who do not have one year of acute care experience to fill open clinical technician positions at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Students learn concepts related to body systems and common disorders, safe patient handling, mobility and transitioning to acute care settings.

During clinicals, interns perform patient care skills and tasks within the clinical technician scope of practice under the direct supervision of clinical instructors.

The intern’s progress is measured through weekly quizzes and clinical evaluations, summative assessments and skills/competency validations.

Successful completion of the internship is recognized at a clinical technician completion ceremony, where graduates are awarded certificates. After the internship, clinical technicians receive a standard unit orientation with an assigned preceptor/mentor on their unit of hire.
