The Muehlschlegel Lab at Johns Hopkins is dedicated to advancing the care and outcomes of patients who are critically ill with neurological emergencies and their families. Our research focuses on neuroprognostication, clinician-family communication, and shared decision-making to support informed, patient-centered care.
Led by Principal Investigator Dr. Susanne Muehlschlegel, our lab conducts observational studies, intervention development, and clinical trials at the intersection of decision science, behavioral economics, ethics and medicine. Our work is supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health, foundations and philanthropy.
We believe that collaboration across disciplines and engagement with all stakeholders—including patients, families and healthcare professionals—are essential to driving meaningful improvements in neurocritical care.
We also love to mentor trainees (Johns Hopkins fellows, medical and nursing students, and undergraduate students) to promote curiosity, scientific rigor and share our love for neurocritical care.
