Task Force on Women's Academic Careers in Medicine

The Task Force on Women’s Academic Careers in Medicine (TF) was appointed in 1990 by the Chair of the Department of Medicine (DOM) with the purpose of identifying and characterizing the career obstacles facing women faculty in the Department of Medicine and to offer solutions.  Since that time the TF has worked closely with departmental leadership to increase its representation of women, promote gender equity around salary, promotion rates, leadership appointments, and raise awareness about family friendly work practices.

The mission of the TF is to promote a a department where all faculty and fellows thrive and achieve equity in career advancement, leadership and promotion.

The TF focuses on the following priorities:

  1. Systematic data collection and analysis of gender equity in promotion, salary and leadership roles to understand potential barriers
  2. Promote career development and leadership programming geared for women faculty
  3. Build community through networking events
  4. Support faculty in navigating and finding resources around caregiving, parental leave and other concerns
