About The Department

Our Social Work Department provides for the psychological, social, emotional and practical needs of cancer patients and their families. Masters-level social workers with expertise in the field of oncology can help patients and their caregivers manage the stress and changes that come with cancer. Do You Need Transportation During Treatment?

The American Cancer Society has awarded a grant to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center to help You with transportation. This ride is supported by the American Cancer Society.

  • Day-To-Day Coping

    Emotional support, problem-solving, counseling and referrals, groups, talking with children about cancer, guidance and support through the health care system.

  • Practical Assistance

    Important phone numbers, Temporary housing, regional transportation, community cancer resources, insurance enrollment options and challenges, COBRA.

  • Money and Legal Matters

    Advance directives, Social Security, FMLA, pharmacy costs, work place communication, financial side of illness, notary services.

  • Managing Care

    Family meetings, discharge planning, advocacy, home care, private duty and hospice information, oncology pain and palliative care service.

  • Survivorship

    Cancer Survivorship begins on the day of diagnosis. Cancer treatment for some can be a long and challenging journey. It is extremely important to see doctors who specialize in your type of cancer
