JHHC Announces New COO
Dr. Brandon Charles Brings Clinical, Administrative Expertise
On Jan. 4, Dr. Brandon Charles joined Johns Hopkins HealthCare (JHHC) as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, after recently serving as an advisor and consultant to the organization.
“Dr. Charles’ contributions during his temporary position with JHHC, combined with his operational and managed care expertise, give us confidence that he is the right person to lead our operations moving forward,” said J.P. Holland, JHHC’s President and CEO. “His experience and proven success in managed care operations demonstrate his ability to improve health plan efficiency and strengthen our collaboration with health care providers as we increase value-based care delivery in our markets.”
As SVP and COO, Dr. Brandon Charles oversees all aspects of JHHC’s operations, including member services, provider services, network management, IT, claims operations, and other operational functions. He and his team will collaborate with other leaders throughout the organization to identify strategic plans and policies that give members access to high-quality and effective health care solutions.
“First and foremost, it is the mission of JHHC and Johns Hopkins Medicine that makes me excited to return,” Dr. Charles said. “It feels like home here, and I am excited to help JHHC become the leader in provider-owned health plans and services.”
Dr. Charles holds an MA in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, an MD from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and a GMP from Harvard Business School, and is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He joins JHHC from an Expert Associate Partner position at McKinsey & Company and previously served in multiple executive roles as VP of Payment Integrity and CMO of Clinical Operations at Anthem, Inc. Before transitioning to the business side of the industry, he has had a long, respected career as a practicing physician.
Dr. Charles brings a wealth of experience in improving health plan operations, fostering effective business process improvement, and delivering high quality, improved health outcomes. He has an exemplary track record of leveraging technology and analytics to execute new capabilities and create innovative solutions. He will be a valuable resource in helping JHHC achieve optimal operational performance while ensuring an excellent experience for members of JHHC’s health plans.
