Foundations of Educational Scholarship Course

This 4-hour course targets educators who wish to learn skills specific to medical education scholarship and become aware of institutional and outside resources. The goal of this workshop is to provide educators with exposure to the basics of medical education research.

Workshop Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • List the key steps of medical education research.
  • State the reasoning behind using a conceptual framework when conducting medical education research.
  • Provide examples of educationally focused research aims.
  • Describe different levels and provide examples of educational outcomes using Kirkpatrick’s pyramid.
  • Link educational aims and outcomes to appropriate research designs using examples from published medical education scholarship.
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct a basic literature search with a focus on the educational literature.
  • Name 3 ways to disseminate medical education scholarship.
  • Work on developing an education scholarship project of your own.

This course will be offered several times a year and CME credit is available for faculty members.
