INFECTIOUS DISEASES Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria

Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are a diverse group of environmental pathogens found in soil and water. In humans, these bacteria can sometimes cause chronic lung infections that may be mistaken for tuberculosis; NTM can also cause skin and soft tissue infections, lymph node changes, or more widespread disease in the body. The multidisciplinary Center for Nontuberculous Mycobacteria and Bronchiectasis focuses on the specialized care of patients with NTM lung disease and clinical and basic research to further our understanding of NTM-related infections.
The Center’s Directors are Elisa Ignatius, MD, MSC, and Dan Belz, MD, MPH; the Clinical Director is Christopher Lippincott, MD, MPH.
