INFECTIOUS DISEASES Microbiome

Microbiome research involves the study of the communities of microbes colonizing the human body and the effect they have on human health. Current research in the Division of Infectious Diseases is looking at the gut microbiome and the impact it has on colon cancer development, cancer immunotherapy responses and persistence of Clostridioides difficile in the colon. Involvement in C. difficile microbiota modifying clinical trials is in progress. Research also focuses on the vaginal microbiome and its role in pathogenesis of and susceptibility to bacterial vaginosis, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and other urogenital infections as well as obstetric outcomes.
