Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The Division of Hospital Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center has a long-standing commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Johns Hopkins Bayview was recognized on the Lown Hospital Index as number one in the state of Maryland and number three in the country of America’s most socially responsible hospitals. Social responsibility ranking is based on 54 metrics across three main categories including equity, value, and outcomes.
Specific activities surrounding this commitment include:
- DEI Director
There is a dedicated leadership role overseeing the DEI activities of the group. - UIM Affinity Group
The UIM group brings together people and allies of groups under-represented in medicine. They engage in various activities including identifying opportunities for community engagement, e.g. school supply and uniform drive. - Cultural Celebrations
The division takes advantage of our diversity to grow our individual cultural intelligence through cultural celebrations. This includes sharing cultural traditions and learning about different backgrounds through stories and food.
The Division of Hospital Medicine is invested in ensuring that the wellness of providers and staff and Joy in Practice is top of mind for the leadership. The leadership of the group is committed to transparency and is dedicated to solving issues affecting well-being that are brought forward by the group.
