The Johns Hopkins Adult Congenital Heart Disease Center ensures continuity of care for congenital heart disease patients as they enter adulthood and throughout the rest of their lives. Our center has been recognized as an Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) ACHD-Accredited Comprehensive Care Center.

Specialized Care

Our specialized clinics provide care throughout various stages of adulthood. You may require care from an adult congenital heart disease specialist if you have congenital heart disease and:
  • Become pregnant 
  • Had surgical heart repairs during childhood that have deteriorated over time
  • Develop acquired heart disease, such as coronary artery disease, as you age
  • Develop pulmonary hypertension

Our Clinics

Cardio-Obstetrics Clinic

Women diagnosed with adult congenital heart disease are supported in the Cardio-Obstetric Clinic. Our team composed of cardiovascular and maternal-fetal medicine specialists will determine the safety of pregnancy and provide comprehensive care should you become pregnant.

ACHD Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Clinic

Heart failure is common in patients diagnosed with adult congenital heart disease and requires specialized care. Our clinic assesses patients diagnosed with congenital heart disease and heart failure for heart transplant eligibility and care.

ACHD and Pulmonary Hypertension

Patients diagnosed with adult congenital heart disease are at an increased risk of developing pulmonary hypertension. Our center partners with pulmonologists and transplant surgeons for later stage pulmonary hypertension which may require a lung transplant.

Fontan Clinic

The Fontan circulation may lead to complications in multiple organ systems. As a result, Fontan patients require lifelong specialized monitoring and multidisciplinary care. Our center is a home for Fontan patients from childhood through adulthood. It is staffed by a multidisciplinary team to address all organ systems impacted by life with a Fontan circulation.
