Yes, to schedule an appointment, patients should have been referred to see a cardiac surgeon in the past 12 months. While we do not ask for a referral letter, when you call to schedule you will be asked for your diagnosis and the name of the referring doctor.

TAVR is offered through the Aortic Center as part of the Transcatheter Interventions for Structural Heart Disease program. At the Aortic Center, we can help you decide on the best treatment option for aortic valve disease.

Our center specializes in treatments for adults with aortic conditions, including adults living with or newly diagnosed with congenital heart anomalies. Children are treated at the Blalock-Taussig-Thomas Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center at Johns Hopkins.

Surgeries are performed in our state-of-the-art facilities at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in downtown Baltimore and Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Leading up to the surgery, you may have consultations and other appointments at the hospital or at one of our outpatient clinics in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., metro areas. Video visits may be available for follow-up care.
