    The Johns Hopkins nephrology fellowship is one of the nation’s premier training programs in academic and clinical nephrology. The program produces clinically outstanding nephrologists, internationally recognized clinical and basic scientists and innovative medical educators. The program is overseen by the office of graduate medical education, with rotations predominantly at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

    Fellows spend 52 weeks over three years treating and managing in- and outpatients with kidney issues, including intensive care patients requiring hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and continuous renal replacement therapy. During this time, fellows pursue a master’s degree in epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and participate in epidemiology journal club and grand rounds. A track for basic science research is also available. Several general nephrology and transplant clinics take place each month.

    The program is accredited by the American Society of Nephrology and American Society of Transplantation (ASN/AST) since 2003 and complementary to the ACGME-accredited general nephrology fellowship.

    The program is of one year duration.  Interested and qualified individuals may seek additional training in Transplant Nephrology-related research beyond the one-year clinical fellowship.
