How your gift helps the Center for Transgender and Gender Expansive Health
-
By making a contribution to support the Johns Hopkins Center for Transgender and Gender Expansive Health, you are making gender affirmation a reality for our patients. The center is about more than the surgeries and procedures. The surgical and nonsurgical services we provide can save lives. By supporting the center, you can help people live as their authentic selves and achieve their maximum potential.
At the Center for Transgender and Gender Expansive Health, we provide a holistic treatment plan for transgender individuals through access to Johns Hopkins specialists in dermatology, urology, plastic surgery, laryngology/voice services, Gyn/Ob, endocrinology, and pediatric and adolescent care.
The path to gender affirmation is different for everyone, but a gift to the center helps ensure that lack of access to care and financial constraints do not impact a patient’s ability or decision to pursue treatment.
-
Clinical outcomes research is a vital component of the Center for Transgender and Gender Expansive Health. We focus on tracking patient-reported outcomes to evaluate the impact of treatment on quality of life, and on identifying at-risk populations for targeted interventions and improving surgical outcomes.
In addition to performing clinical studies, the center is one of the only places in the world working on basic science regenerative medicine research for transgender health. We are part of the Johns Hopkins Translational Tissue Engineering Center, and our research focuses on creating new scientific innovations for transgender patients and addressing deficiencies in existing surgical techniques that lead to high complication rates. Your donation helps drive this innovative research.
-
Historically, transgender care has been absent from formal education and training across all health disciplines. This is a major contributing factor to the health disparities facing the transgender community. By educating the next generation of health care professionals, the center will lessen a known barrier to care and provide greater access to care from culturally and clinically competent providers.
Your support will further fundamental cultural competency training for both clinicians and nonclinicians across our health system. It will help build transgender health care into our residency and staff education activities. In addition, it will provide financial support for sending direct-patient-care practitioners to national training conferences to enhance their clinical skills.
