Conditions We Treat: Genital Cancers

Cancers of the penis, scrotum and urethra (also known as genital cancers) can have a serious impact on urinary and sexual function, so early diagnosis and treatment are critical. Symptoms of penile and scrotal cancers may include skin growths, changes to the color and texture of the skin, and abnormal discharge or bleeding. Urethral cancer does not always cause symptoms in early stages, but later it can cause urinary pain or difficulty, bleeding or a visible growth.

What to Expect

At your appointment, your surgeon will review your clinical history, perform a physical exam and order additional testing if necessary. Our goal with genital cancer treatment is to successfully remove the cancer while preserving your sexual and urinary function.

Treatment varies depending on the type and stage of cancer, but may involve local topical therapies, minor excisions, genital-preserving surgery or extensive excisions that require genital reconstruction. Radiation and/or chemotherapy may also be necessary.
