The mission of the Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology is to promote the understanding and treatment of allergic and immunologic disorders including asthma in order to provide optimal patient health by fostering basic, clinical and translational research; training physicians and scientists for academic careers in allergy and immunology; and providing compassionate, state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic care of adults with allergic and immunologic diseases. For more than fifty years, our efforts have been made possible by the financial support of our generous donors.

Your investment in the Division is instrumental to our efforts to translate basic science into real treatments for sufferers of allergic diseases. Many academic medical centers cannot support an allergy division; thanks to your support, The Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology has become one of the preeminent research and training groups in the world. Our faculty has been among the first to make key discoveries relevant to allergic disease diagnosis and treatment. Why Give to the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology

The Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Johns Hopkins is among the largest of its kind worldwide. It is recognized internationally as a leading center for research on allergic, immunologic and respiratory diseases. Physicians and scientists at Johns Hopkins have been among the first to make key discoveries, including:

• Development of proven tests for food, penicillin, insect venom and latex allergies
• Controlled studies of the effectiveness of allergen immunotherapy (“allergy shots”) for allergic rhinitis and asthma
• Controlled studies of the effectiveness of intranasal steroids for allergic rhinitis
• Studies of the effectiveness of allergen vaccines to treat allergic rhinitis
• Discovery of histamine releasing factor
• Discovery of genes responsible for allergies and asthma.

Types of gifts

There are four ways to support the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology through charitable giving: cash gifts, matching gifts, tribute giving, or gift planning.

Cash gifts

Gifts of all sizes help the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology to continue our ongoing efforts as a leader in innovative and compassionate treatment, groundbreaking research, and excellent surgical medical education. Gifts made with a check or credit card provide immediate support to the Department. 

Contributions to the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology can be unrestricted and used where the need is greatest. Gifts can also be designated to support a specific doctor. Gifts can also be made in memory of a loved one or to honor someone special in your life.

Gifts can be made outright or pledged over a period of up to five years.

Matching gifts

Many employers offer a matching gift program to their employees. For every dollar you donate to the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, your employer will match it either dollar for dollar, two dollars to one dollar, or, in more generous cases, three dollars to one dollar. All you need is a Matching Gift Form from your employer’s Public Affairs Department. Complete the section designated for employees and mail the form to us. We will take care of all the other details and paperwork.

Tribute giving

There are many opportunities to commemorate family members, friends, or colleagues on a birthday, anniversary, or another special occasion. Gifts can be made to the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in honor of a special physician, for example, who has played a significant role in your health. These gifts are greatly appreciated by the people being honored and their families.

A gift made to the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in memory of a person who has passed away is a special way to honor a beloved friend or family member. Such a gift creates a legacy and memorializes the person by providing direct support to the Department.
