Learning is an important part of a child's life. We work with patients and their families so that hospitalization doesn't have to interrupt schooling.
The Patient Academic Services department is here to keep patients and siblings engaged academically through the duration of their illness and hospital admission. Our department consists of three Florida licensed teachers and one teacher’s aide. We provide the normalcy of school and learning and help maintain a relationship with the patient’s school program. Our goal is to meet students at their academic level and encourage their continued learning and growth.
We provide instructional support and serve as a resource to academically support students at all grade levels. We provide instructional support to patients and siblings ages 5 through college, five days a week, year-round to keep students learning and engaged. We provide the tools and assistance for families to navigate the school choice that fits their child’s needs, and work closely with the patient’s teachers and district to make sure instruction is as seamless as possible.
Our services include:
- Bedside tutoring for hospitalized patients and/or tutoring for school-age siblings if present.
- Laptop rentals for patients during hospitalization.
- Advocacy and liaison services for patients and families included but not limited to:
- School program changes
- Hospital Homebound Application assistance
- 504 & IEP accommodation assistance
- Collection of classwork and homework
