Centro SOL’s Youth Program Creates Opportunities for Students

Before joining the youth program at Centro SOL (Center for Salud/Health and Opportunities for Latinos) at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Leo Sanchez says, he did not enjoy working with others because he didn’t feel he could rely on them. After spending a summer with 80 fellow Latino high school students, Sanchez says he has become comfortable working in a group.

Johns Hopkins Medicine and Asylee Women Enterprise Work Together to Help Asylum Seekers

This year, the Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund awarded AWE a $15,000 grant. The fund supports nonprofit organizations that serve the communities near Johns Hopkins campuses and are associated with Johns Hopkins Medicine through employee or institutional involvement. The Neighborhood Fund uses pledge donations made through the United Way campaign to help local nonprofit organizations build stronger neighborhoods by addressing needs in areas of community revitalization, education, employment, health and public safety.

Gayle Adams Community Service Grant

The Gayle Adams Community Service Grant was established to honor the service and distinguished career of Gayle Adams, who retired in 2014 after 40 years of service as director of Community Relations at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Community service grants ranging from $250 to $1,500 will be considered for those organizations in southeast Baltimore whose projects focus on the improvement of the health and wellness of the surrounding community.
