Kim Crout reflects on her experience as a teen diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and how her treatment at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center changed her life. During her teen years, Kim’s diagnosis affected her daily life, and her treatment plan did not provide much relief from her severe symptoms. After many treatment efforts, her mother found pediatric gastroenterologist Maria Oliva-Hemker at the Children’s Center. From there, she was able to find better options for Kim. After a colectomy procedure, Kim no longer had to take medications and was able to begin her next stage of life.
