Staff Spotlight: Fili Herrera
When Fili Herrera started his nursing career in 2008, he was focused on becoming the best RN he could be. Suburban Hospital gave him that foundation, through our ICU Nurse Residency Program. And, as an Army Veteran, when his passion for caring for our wounded soldiers took him to Walter Reed in 2013. Not quite ready to leave his Suburban Hospital family, Fili kept a position at Suburban.
Eager to learn and grow as an RN, Fili went to Georgetown University and earned his Master’s Degree as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. He started his NP career at the University of Maryland Medical System as a CV-ICU Provider. From there, he transitioned to Thoracic Surgery and Surgical IMC. Not done exploring all that nursing has to offer, Fili took on a new role in Surgical Oncology. Right away, he knew that this was where his passion for patient care was a perfect fit. And when Suburban Hospital was developing its Surgical Oncology program, Fili jumped at the chance to come home.
Now he works with oncology patients and offers hope through new and cutting-edge treatment modalities.
