Information on Fees for Visiting Medical Students
What fees are due to JHUSOM?
Fees include registration, health insurance (if applicable) and parking (if applicable).
What is the cost of the registration fee?
The base fee is $500 for each elective. Payment of the registration fee entitles visiting medical students access to the student health clinic through University Health Services and use of the Welch Medical Library.
An additional registration fee of $5000 per clinical elective is charged for visiting students from schools not accredited by LCME or COCA. This fee is charged in addition to the base fee.
If a research elective extends beyond 9 weeks, additional registration fees are charged.
Fees are payable approximately 10 days prior to the start date of the elective and are not refundable after the elective begins.
What is the cost to park on campus?
The maximum daily rate for parking in a JHMI garage is $12. No discounted parking coupons are available.
What is the cost of health insurance?
All visiting students must have health insurance that meets the minimum requirements established by the JHUSOM. For students completing electives of 9 weeks (one quarter) or less, travel insurance that meets the J-1 exchange visitor health insurance requirements is an acceptable alternative. If you do not have acceptable alternative coverage, you will be required to enroll in the JHUSOM student health program. The premium for individual health insurance coverage is $378 per month for the 2022-2023 academic year (subject to change every July 1).
When are fees due?
Fees are due on or before the start date of the elective. Instructions on how to pay the fees will be sent approximately 10 days prior to the elective start date.
What payment types are accepted?
Payment can be made via credit or debit card through our self-service portal.
Fees are subject to change.
Fees are subject to change each academic year. Students are required to pay the fees that are in place at the time their elective takes place.
