    Our renowned residency program offers residents a chance to work and learn at the safe, convenient Johns Hopkins medical campus in Baltimore, surrounded by some of the brightest medical minds in the country. Residents' opportunities include seminars at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, hands-on training at our state-of-the-art simulation lab, and working and learning at our burn unit at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Campus and the University of Maryland Medical Center’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

    The residency in psychiatry and behavioral sciences provides a comprehensive and broad-based education in clinical psychiatric diagnosis and treatment. The didactic portion of the curriculum is organized to present a body of knowledge which comprises current thought in psychiatry. The clinical exercises and experiences are organized to provide clinical expertise in evaluation of the entire range of psychiatrically ill patients and competence in psychiatric treatment, using the fundamental modalities of therapy currently available.

    Each year, seven people, comprising categorical and preliminary residents, are chosen for the general surgery training program from all over the world to obtain broad training in general surgery without the expectation of completing their training in our institution. Residents are provided with a customized and individualized academic development experience ranging from one to four years, depending on their experience and goals.

    Johns Hopkins has received ACGME approval and implemented early specialization in interventional radiology training so that residents can begin their interventional radiology (IR)/diagnostic radiology (DR) training in the first year. The program is committed to providing residents with every possible means of training in IR/DR for those who decide to pursue interventional radiology after the first year, as well as the flexibility to select a different pathway.

    Johns Hopkins Medicine is proud of our innovative combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency program (MP), which is designed to train primary care physicians in an inner-city environment. The dual MP certification prepares our graduates to care comprehensively for patients throughout the entire life cycle, while the expanded curriculum addresses issues prevalent in urban settings, such as psychiatric illness, urban violence, substance use, HIV and health disparities.
