The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences treats outpatients in a number of specialty clinics and programs as well in general community psychiatry clinics at both The Johns Hopkins Hospital and The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Specialty Clinics

Our specialty clinics are organized in some cases by disorder, such as the Mood Disorders Consultation Clinic, the Memory and Alzheimer’s Treatment Center, or the Addiction Treatment Service. In other cases, the clinics specialize in an age group (such at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry clinics or the Geriatric Psychiatry Clinic) or a gender (such at the Women’s Mood Disorder Clinic). In some clinics patients are treated on an on-going basis. In others, only one-time, second-opinion appointments are available. Each is described in detail on this website and each has instructions and contact information.

It is important to understand that physicians in this department do not participate with many insurance plans and managed care organizations. Many insurance plans, as well, do not cover some psychiatric outpatient costs. Therefore, it is equally important to check with the specific clinic when you make an appointment to see if your insurance is accepted and to check with your own insurance company to be sure that physician fees for outpatient psychiatric care are covered by your policy.

Community Psychiatry Clinics

Two general psychiatry clinics are available through the Community Psychiatry Program, one at each location (Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center). They provide a wide range of outpatient mental health and related services for individuals living in the Baltimore area. Staff members also treat Johns Hopkins employees and patients receiving outpatient medical care who are in need of psychiatric services. Medical Assistance, Medicare and some private insurances are accepted.

The Community Psychiatry Program at The Johns Hopkins Hospital serves young adults to elderly persons with outpatient, mobile treatment, and outreach programs, as well as specialized programs to reach specific groups within the community.
