Child, Adolescent, And Transitional Youth Psychiatric Rehabilitation

Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP)

At PRP, we are save, we respect, and we are responsible

PRP at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is an after-school psychiatric rehabilitation program for ages 5-17. PRP is designed for children and adolescents already receiving outpatient mental health services, though in need of additional support. The PRP coordinates with a child/adolescent’s primary mental health therapist to provide additional support through specially designed groups and individual rehabilitation services. PRP assists children and adolescents develop and practice social skills, emotion regulation skills, and daily living skills. A complete rehabilitative assessment is provided to determine a course of rehabilitative treatment. Limited transportation to and from the program is available. Referrals must be made by an outpatient mental health provider (therapist or psychiatrist). The child/adolescent must see their primary mental health provider consistently in order to qualify and remain in PRP services.

The TY PRP at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is designed for older adolescents and young adults diagnosed with mental illness. The TY PRP program offers rehabilitative treatment groups and individual services designed to assist patients experiencing the challenges of transitioning from adolescence to adulthood. TY assists these young adults in developing and practicing the emotion regulation skills, social skills, and daily living skills needed to transition successfully into the adult world.

Services Provided for Child, Adolescent & Transitional Youth PRP

  • On-Site Group Services
    On-site group services are available up to three days per week for three hours per day. Group topic examples could include, though are not limited to, social skills, emotion regulation skills, daily living skills, self-expression, cooking, families, arts and crafts, and nutrition.
  • Off-Site Services
    Off-site services are available up to two times per month. Off-site services can include assistance with accessing community resources, visiting a client’s home, and trips with peers into the community. Off-site services provide an opportunity for clients to practice learned skills within the community environment.
  • Individual Services
    Each client is paired with a psychiatric rehabilitation therapist. The client’s psychiatric rehabilitation therapist will coordinate with the client, the client’s family, and the client’s mental health treatment team to develop and assess an individualized rehabilitative treatment plan specifically tailored to the client’s needs. The client’s rehabilitation therapist is also responsible for assisting client’s in accessing the community resources needed to achieve their goals.
