Overview
The Johns Hopkins Bayview Mood Disorders Clinic works collaboratively with patients seeking treatment for mood disorders. Treatment includes a full psycho-social assessment, medication evaluation and the development of treatment plans which incorporate evidence-based practices to achieve each patient’s recovery goals. Each patient is assigned to a treatment team consisting of a therapist and a psychiatrist.
Services Offered
- Psychotherapy:
Psychotherapy is always part of the treatment plan for our patients, and the content and frequency of psychotherapy sessions will be determined by the treatment team based upon client goals, best practices and other relevant factors. - Medication:
Every patient is assigned to a psychiatrist and will meet with them at a frequency identified by the treatment team with input from the patient. - Bilingual providers:
In addition to interpretation services, this team has exam-qualified bilingual therapists (Qualified Bilingual Staff or “QBS”) who are able to provide therapy in Spanish.
Patients at the Bayview Mood Disorders Clinic see both a psychiatrist and a psychotherapist. The combination of psychotherapy and medications has been established to be the most effective treatment for mood disorders, and best supports lasting recovery and stability. This collaborative model provides an advantage to patients allowing for the most effective treatment planning. The frequency of appointment with a therapist is variable depending upon need. Medication management appointments with a psychiatrist are variable as well depending upon the course of the illness and side-effect but they occur at least every 90 days. Therapy frequency varies as needed, and medication management visits as needed. Treatment plans are developed collaboratively by patients and the treatment team. Progress toward goals is assessed regularly in treatment and objectives are updated as needed. For those patients interested in volunteering for a Hopkins research project, a research coordinator in the clinic can facilitate their participation.

Current Research Participation Opportunities
National Network of Depression Centers Clinical Care Registry (NNDC CCR)
The National Network of Depression Centers (NNDC) is leading an effort to establish a clinical registry that will gather information from people across the nation. As a person touched by a mood disorder, we invite you to share your experience, so that we can better understand mood disorders and their treatment. For more information about this research study, please call 410-550-1652 or 410-614-1017. Principal Investigator: Peter Zandi, PhD, MPH, MHS (IRB Protocol NA_00040237). Information Sheet
