Primary Academic Title

Assistant Professor of Medicine

Background

Dr. Sahetya is a specialist in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. She is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of all forms of acute respiratory failure, including acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. Her research focuses on ARDS and the optimization of mechanical ventilation for patients with acute respiratory failure.

Dr. Sahetya received her B.A. from Vanderbilt University and earned her M.D. from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and her fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. During fellowship, she obtained a Masters of Health Sciences (M.H.S.) in Clinical Investigation from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She joined as Johns Hopkins faculty in 2018.

Research Summary

Dr. Sahetya has a Masters in Clinical Investigation and her primary focus is ventilator-induced lung injury in the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). She has studied the effect of positive-end expiratory pressure and tidal volume on airway pressures during mechanical ventilation and is currently evaluating the optimal ways to personalize these settings for individual patients. She is also interested in how critical care physicians practice goal-concordant care for critically ill patients and communication between intensivists and families.
