Background
William Norbury, M.D., F.R.C.S. (Plast), is an associate professor of plastic surgery (PAR) in the Johns Hopkins Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and part of the Johns Hopkins Adult Burn Center. His areas of clinical expertise include surgical reconstruction of severe burns, burn reconstruction, and laser attenuation of scar tissue.
He received a Bachelor of Medicine degree from St. Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospital Medical College. He obtained a Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons postgraduate diploma at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2003, and completed a Royal College of Surgeons fellowship in plastic surgery in 2012.
In addition to performing his residency in plastic surgery, Dr. Norbury completed a fellowship in the therapeutic use of lasers in the United Kingdom, as well as fellowships in reconstructive burn surgery and surgical critical care at the University of Texas Medical Branch and Shriners Children’s Texas. He also completed a three-year fellowship in burn care research — focused on attenuation of the hypermetabolic response following severe burns — at Shriners Children’s Texas.
Dr. Norbury’s research activities focus on nutrition in burn care, hypermetabolism, wound healing, sepsis, burn reconstruction and laser treatment of hypertrophic scarring. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and presented his work at numerous national and international meetings.
He is a member of the American Burn Association, the British Burn Association, the International Society for Burn Injuries, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
