Background

Dr. Maria Golson joined the Division of Endocrinology, Obesity and Metabolism in 2020. Her primary research interest is the intrinsic and extrinsic regulation of beta-cell function and insulin secretion.

Dr. Golson received her B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Genetics from Duke University. She then pursued her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology with a concentration in Genetics and Gene Regulation at the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her postdoctoral training at Vanderbilt University before starting her faculty career as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics at the University of Pennsylvania. Throughout her career, Dr. Golson has studied pancreatic endocrine cell development and function.
