About Liudmila Cebotaru
Primary Academic Title
Associate Professor of Medicine
Background
Dr. Liudmila Cebotaru received a nursing degree from the School of Nursing in Balti, Moldova, a medical degree from the Carol Davila School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania and a law degree from the University of Bucharest School of Law. She also earned a master’s degree in US Law from the University of Baltimore.
Dr. Cebotaru’s current research is focused on rescuing CFTR mutants though a novel mechanism called transcomplementation. She showed that certain truncated forms of CFTR can act as molecular chaperones to rescue F508del and other CFTR mutations.
Dr. Cebotaru is also investigating corrector molecules that are currently in clinical trials to get a better understanding of their mechanism of action.

Liudmila Cebotaru Lab
- Research in the Liudmila Cebotaru Lab studies cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) mutants. We also investigate corrector molecules that are currently in clinical trials to get a better understanding of their mechanism of action. A major focus of our research is on developing more efficient gene therapy vectors with the ultimate goal of developing a gene therapy for cystic fibrosis.
