Dr. Schramm’s research interests include data science, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in children with congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension and mechanical circulatory support. She has published case series describing children with pulmonary vein stenosis from an international surgical database and children with ventricular assist devices treated with pulmonary vasodilators. Additionally, she has published in JACC: Case Reports and Cardiology in the Young, and authored a textbook chapter on cardiac effects of neuromuscular disease.
Her active projects include using artificial intelligence and machine learning to discover modifiable risk factors in children with congenital heart disease who develop NEC, pulmonary hypertension biomarkers, and a QI project to introduce pulmonary vasodilators in children with ventricular assist devices. In addition, she is involved in a multi-institutional research collaborative for cardiac intensive care.
