Background

Emily Murphy, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Medicine & Pediatrics and academic Med/Peds hospitalist at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHUSOM). She works in the Johns Hopkins Hospitalist Program at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and is a pediatric hospitalist at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center.

She received her medical degree from JHUSOM. She completed her residency training at the Harvard Brigham & Women's Hospital/Boston Children's Hospital Medicine-Pediatric Residency in 2021.

Dr. Murphy is a clinical educator interested in teaching social determinants of health through a patient-centered lens. She teaches undergraduate and graduate medical learners in both Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. She was a 2023-2024 Bedside Medicine Scholar through the Society of Bedside Medicine, and is the current recipient of the 2024-2026 Jeremiah A. Barondess Fellowship In the Clinical Transaction. With funding from both of these awards, she developed innovative curricula to incorporate social determinants of health into clinical reasoning.

Outside of her research in clinical education, Dr. Murphy also directs the Osler Medical Residency APECS (Assessment of Physical Examination & Clinical Skills) Program, co-directs of the Harriet Lane Residency Program/Ascension Saint Agnes Community Pediatrics Curriculum, and co-leads core JHUSOM TRIPLE (Transition to Residency and Internship and Preparation for Life) sessions.
